Karachi's Pink Bus service is one of the most important additions to the city's public transit network in recent years. Dedicated to female commuters, the pink-branded buses run on the busiest Red Bus routes with female conductors, CCTV, and a more comfortable environment. This guide covers what the Pink Bus is, when it runs, and how to use the RedBus app to prioritise it in your route search.

What is the Pink Bus?

The Pink Bus is a women-only transit service operating on Karachi's main Red Bus corridors. The buses are visually distinct (painted bright pink) and operate with the following features:

• Female conductors and staff. Every Pink Bus is staffed by women, from the driver to the fare collector. This is the most-requested feature by female commuters and the one that most directly addresses harassment concerns.
• CCTV throughout the bus. Cameras cover every carriage, with footage reviewed in case of incidents.
• Priority seating at the front, and a clear policy that men give up these seats when the bus is busy.
• Harassment-free environment. The combination of female staff, visible cameras, and the social norm around Pink Bus usage makes these buses one of the safest transit options in the city.

Which routes does the Pink Bus run on?

The Pink Buses don't have unique route numbers. They run as dedicated female-only buses on the standard Red Bus routes — specifically R1, R2, R3, R9, and R10. The corridors are the same as the regular red buses; the difference is the staffing, branding, and exclusivity.

This means if your regular commute runs along any of those five routes, the Pink Bus is an option at certain times of day. Male commuters use the regular red buses on the same routes.

Timings and frequency

The published time slots for the women-exclusive service are:

• 🌅 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM (morning rush)
• 🌞 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM (afternoon)
• 🌆 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM (evening rush)

Outside these hours, the regular red buses operate on the same routes. The general Red Bus service runs daily from approximately 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with the Pink Bus running on its dedicated slots.

Fare

The Pink Bus fare matches the standard PBS fare: Rs. 80 per person per ride for trips up to 15 km, and Rs. 120 for trips above 15 km (with girls under 5 riding free). The Pink Bus's value is safety and comfort, not price.

For many female commuters, the Pink Bus is the first time they've felt genuinely safe on Karachi's public transit. The combination of features creates a meaningfully different experience:

1. Open the app and type your destination as usual.
2. Look for routes marked with the Pink Bus indicator in the search results.
3. Tap on the Pink Bus option to see the full chain, including any transfers.
4. The app will show the next available Pink Bus departure on each leg.

This filtering is especially useful for regular commuters — once you set the Pink Bus preference, the app will keep it in mind for future searches. You can always switch back to the regular Red Bus network if the Pink Bus isn't running when you need to travel.

The Pink Bus is most frequent on the R1, R2, R3, R9, and R10 corridors. If your commute is along one of these, the Pink Bus is likely your best option.
